C8: AI Basics – How Machines Learn and Help Us

Aim

To explore and understand diverse career roles that use Artificial Intelligence and the skills needed for them.

Materials Required

  • Internet access (for research) or printed handouts provided by the teacher

  • Chart paper or A4 sheets

  • Colored pens or sketch markers

  • Scissors and glue (optional for career wall setup)

Step-by-Step Activity Plan

Step 1: Brainstorm Careers (5–10 min)

Start by asking students:

“Where do you think AI is used today?”

List their responses on the board — examples might include:

  • Self-driving cars

  • YouTube recommendations

  • Hospital diagnosis systems

  • Smart home assistants

Then connect each to possible career paths.

Step 2: Research AI Careers (10–15 min)

Students (individually or in pairs) pick one AI-related career to explore from a provided list or through research.

Suggested AI Careers:

  • Data Scientist – analyzes data using AI models

  • Machine Learning Engineer – builds systems that learn from data

  • Robotics Engineer – designs and programs intelligent robots

  • AI Ethics Specialist – ensures AI systems are fair and unbiased

  • AI UX Designer – creates human-friendly interfaces for AI products

  • AI Health Analyst – helps doctors diagnose using AI

  • AI Environmental Scientist – tracks pollution and climate change

  • AI Music Creator – composes songs using AI tools

Step 3: Create a “Career Card” (15–20 min)

Each student or group makes a Career Card that includes:

Section

Description

Role Name

What is the career called?

What They Do

Main responsibilities and tasks

How AI Is Involved

How AI helps in their work

Skills Needed

What students can start learning now

Future Opportunities

Why this career matters for the future

Example Career Card:

Role Name: AI Health Analyst
What They Do: Analyze patient data using AI tools to detect diseases early.
How AI Is Involved: Uses machine learning to find patterns in medical scans.
Skills Needed: Biology, coding, problem-solving, ethics.
Future Opportunities: Can help create faster, cheaper, and more accurate healthcare for all.

Step 4: Build an “AI Career Wall” (10 min)

  • Display all Career Cards on a classroom wall or board.

  • Organize them into sections — Science, Technology, Arts, Business, Social Service.

  • Let students walk around, read, and discuss careers that interest them.

Encourage peer interaction:

“Which AI career matches your passion — helping people, building things, or solving problems?”
