Aim:
To explore ethical questions and build awareness about responsible drone use through a class debate.
Requirements:
-
Whiteboard or chart paper for noting debate points
-
Markers
-
Research materials (articles, videos, or handouts on drone laws)
Steps:
Step 1 – Introduce the Topic
Explain the debate question:
“Should drones be used for food delivery in cities?”
Discuss what the question means — think about benefits, risks, and ethics.
Step 2 – Divide the Class
Split into two groups:
-
Team For: Support food delivery drones.
-
Team Against: Oppose due to privacy or safety concerns.
Each group gets 5–10 minutes to prepare arguments.
Step 3 – Discussion Points
Encourage teams to consider:
Pros (For):
-
Faster delivery
-
Reduces traffic
-
Eco-friendly compared to vehicles
-
Innovative and futuristic
Cons (Against):
-
Could invade people’s privacy
-
Risk of accidents or falling drones
-
Noise pollution in cities
-
Unclear safety regulations
Step 4 – Conduct the Debate
-
Each team gets 2–3 minutes to present their case.
-
After both teams present, open for rebuttals (short counter-arguments).
-
The teacher notes strong ethical points on the board.
Step 5 – Conclude with a Class Consensus
Summarize key takeaways:
-
Technology is not “good” or “bad” — it’s how we use it that matters.
-
Ethical flying = safe, respectful, and responsible use.
-
Create a short Class Drone Code of Conduct, e.g.:
-
Fly safely.
-
Protect privacy.
-
Follow the law.
-
Use drones for positive impact.
