Inside the hub

A place to turn knowledge into something that works.

GIET's IDEA Lab is designed as a shared resource for students and faculty across engineering disciplines. The emphasis is on moving from theory to application through real projects, collaborative problem-solving and repeated prototyping.

The lab supports the full early-stage making journey: exploring an idea, learning modern fabrication tools, building a proof of concept and developing the practical and entrepreneurial skills needed to take it further.

What happens here

Capabilities built around making.

Rapid prototyping

Moving from sketches and CAD models to physical iterations with modern fabrication tools.

Design thinking

Understanding real problems, testing assumptions and improving solutions through feedback.

Cross-discipline projects

Bringing students and faculty from different engineering streams into one build environment.

Startup readiness

Helping promising concepts mature toward product development and entrepreneurship.

Why it matters

The intended outcomes

  • Strengthen practical engineering and 21st-century skills
  • Support student-led products, research and startups
  • Bridge classroom knowledge with real-world application
