THE PM SHRI MANDATE

PM SHRI schools are funded — and expected — to lead on vocational education.

PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) is the Ministry of Education's flagship scheme upgrading 14,500+ schools across India into 'exemplar schools' that fully demonstrate NEP 2020 in practice. Under the PM SHRI School Transformation Framework, Vocational Labs / Skill Labs sit alongside Smart Classrooms, Science Labs, and Atal Tinkering Labs as a mandatory, saturation-model facility — meaning every PM SHRI school is expected to have one, fully equipped and running.

This is not a vague aspiration. The Framework (Part 2, Pillar 1) lays out exact, line-item financial norms for vocational education infrastructure — tools, equipment, teacher training, and even student transport for the Hub-and-Spoke model. Schools that understand these norms and act on them get significantly more value from the scheme than schools that treat vocational education as an afterthought.

Funding Norms

What PM SHRI actually funds — official norms.

Tools & Equipment

Up to ₹5 lakh per school, per job role (one-time, non-recurring grant). Offer 2 job roles and you have up to ₹10 lakh available purely for tools.

Assessment & Certification

Up to ₹600 per student for Class X and Class XII as recurring funding.

Hub-and-Spoke Support

Additional ₹5 lakh per spoke school to the Hub school for trainers, raw material, and capacity.

Teacher & Trainer Training

10-day induction + 5-day in-service training @ ₹300–500 per day per trainee.

Job Roles We Equip For

NSQF-aligned job roles, mapped to real local employment.

IT / ITeS & AI

Computer hardware, networking basics, coding fundamentals, AI/ML exposure. High demand, low equipment cost.

Electronics & IoT

Circuit assembly, sensor integration, embedded systems, robotics basics. Directly aligned with PM SHRI’s Industry 4.0 focus areas.

Automotive / EV Basics

2-wheeler servicing, basic diagnostics, growing EV maintenance awareness. Strong for schools near industrial or transport hubs.

Agriculture & Horticulture

Organic farming, nursery management, drip irrigation, soil testing. Best fit for rural PM SHRI schools and Hub-serving clusters.

Budget Guide

What does a PM SHRI Vocational Lab cost — and how much is already funded?

Because PM SHRI funding norms cover tools and equipment up to ₹5 lakh per job role, most schools' vocational lab costs are substantially met by the scheme itself. Tier options include Single Job Role Lab (Within ₹5 lakh grant), Dual Job Role Lab (₹8–10 lakh), and Hub School Setup (₹15–25 lakh). We provide a detailed itemised quote after the initial site assessment.
